| Mid Summer Gathering and Feast: | ||||
The Mid Summer Gathering is in the spirit to awaken “The Spirit of Mother Nature” laid out on the land we walk upon. To acknowledge the skills and wisdom of the ancestors to the blessing of “Mother Earth”. Activities will include gathering the resources with members of the Algonquin Nation living off the land, demonstrating their traditional skills in their survival on the land, various sharing times such as the Sunrise Ceremony and Sweat Lodges, as well as Elder, Men, Women and story telling Circles. The gathering will conclude with the community's Mid Summer Feast on August 16 and departure on the 17th. For more information check the August Happenings page |

| Community Event: Niki Kizis Odeminiwan "Winter Pow-wow" | ||||
A winter Pow-wow will be held at Maigan Agik on the weekend of March 15. Activities covering the two day will include snow sculptures, snow shoe races, beaver skinning contest, wood cutting and splitting races, just to name a few. A fishing contest will also be held through out the day on Saturday. The festivities will close with a feast at 3 p.m. Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend. | Conference on Global Warming issues | ||||
A Quebec Regional Conference facilitated by the Sierra Youth Coalation (Campus Climate Challenge) will be held in Montreal at McGill University. Global warming issues will be discussed regarding carbon credit trading, resource control, and climate change with the history of colonization specifally in Quebec concerning First Nation communities. The tenth episode, airing January 9, 2008, features Jacob Wawatie discussing sevaral aspect to maintaining a relationship to the land, also compiled in Kokomville Academia, transmitting historical knowledge to the main character of the Fish out of the water. Helping Hands Presentation |

A presentation was offered discussing the history of Turtle Island and the effects of contempory practices on the environment. Scheduled particants included members of a local organization known as the "Rainbow Warriors" who helped organize this event, private land owners, members of Weymotachie and Manaon (Adikamik First Nation ), and members of local Algonquian communities. A traditional Algonquin meal was served proir to the presentation. All were welcome to attend. |
